I have a 72 400 w/a Tillotson carb HR. I dont think its original, but has anyone else out there have one on there JD.
Mine seems to work good but has fixed jets, and was burned down when i got it,
I have never driven it yet and just rebuilt it, so I dont want to do what the last guy did.
Can you still find main jets for this carb?

Ive got a few deeres with tilly carbs on them. They work fine aside from not having a proper choke hook up. Tillitson carbs also have adjustable high/low screws just like a walbro they are basically the same type of carb just have less things to fail in a tillitson. Im sure if your motor burnt down it was a crankseal or somethin else. The 1972 400 had a wr walbro thats why they used an hr tilly. These have a smaller bolt pattern where carb bolts to intake. You can also use an intake off a 73 an up 340,440 even 400 ccw and run a wd or hd carb since these have the larger bolt spread.

Ive rebuilt atleast 50 tillitson carbs and probably have 20 carbs in my basement and I have never sen 1 without the adjustable needles. If you can get a photo Id be intrested in seeing your carb. There are lots of these on ebay that usally sell for $10 or less.
