Thanks for the advice and welcome to Texas. How long have you been down here? What part of NY state are you from. Many moons ago, I lived in the Buffalo then Allegany/Olean area.

What's the best way to set up one of these snowmobiles to start working on it?

Are tracks for this sled still a available?

My ex and youngest son still live in the Fort Worth area, near Keller. Maybe sometime when I'm down there, we can visit.

Thanks again,
Ron
Hi Ron,

To answer a few of your questions, I have been working down here since June of 2010, and just bought a house and moved my wife down last fall. I have a place between Azle and Lake Worth, about 10 minutes off I-820. My house in NY is about an hour east of Buffalo, or a half hour south of Rochester.

You can use a sled lift to pick up your machine to get it to a comfortable working height, or you can pick up the sled by hand and put it on saw horses.

Tracks are not too hard to find for the 600 if you end up needing one. Even NOS ones show up once in a while.

Keller is not real far from my place. I have about 18 sleds down here already, and feel free to plan a visit if you are in the area. Always glad to host sled guys. I met a Cat guy in Fort Worth earlier this year too.

Joe-

Hope you didn't get any damage from the twisters last night. Boy Granbury got whacked pretty good. They were reporting on the Lubbock news one tornado was estimated to be a mile wide. I've been down here over 30 years and I'm still not used to the superstorms they get down here. Back in '95, we had a system pass through fort worth that produced nearly 100 mph winds and grapefruit sized hail, but not a single twister. Fort worth Police dept had just taken delivery on 80 new patrol cars and they were all sitting in one lot. You should have seen what they looked like after the hail got done with them. I remember seeing houses with the siding beat off them. One guy had a huge hail stone come through his roof and wind up in his living room.

Next time I'm heading to FW, I'll give you a heads up. Maybe we can visit.

Hi Ron,

No damage here, as the tornado that killed 6 folks was about an hour south of here. The loss of life was sad though. We had hail here, but I had all the cars under cover so no problems.

I would be happy to host a visit and show you my collection if you are in the area.

Hello PWGSX,

Very cool news that there is another Liquifire in the metroplex area! We are on the northwest corner of Fort Worth, about 10 minutes off 820. I am currently restoring (yes, Don, RESTORING, LOL!) and rebuilding my 80 Liquifire I-500 racer, and building a custom Liquifire slowly. I just go a new shop compressor installed, and will be buying a sandblaster soon.

I am making another trip to NY over the 4th of July to bring down more sleds and NOS parts. Need to start filling the second shop up too.

You are also welcome to stop by some weekend if you are in the area. My father in law is at an independent living facility in Arlington, so Cari and I are out that way quite often. So we actually have 3 or 4 Texas jdsleds members, that is cool... :beers;

JD600 wrote:I brought this up in the past. Unless you start with a forged or cast blank, you have no control over the crystal structure of the aluminum. Without some sort of treatment, aluminum expads with heat at a very large rate. With that said, you would either have to mak your piston so undersized that it would have no compression when cold, or it would sieze once it becamse warm. Will do man. I want to start tearing the engine out of mine maybe this weekend before it gets to hot to work in the shed. From there I can put new seals in it in the garage :beers;
