Re: in need if some 1983 liquifire information
The 80 to 84 liquifires came from the factory with rev limiters that prevented them from reving over 9,000 rpm. On an 83 its the small black box mounted to the bottom side of the dash. The engine will run fine with the 3 pin connector unplugged (just no limited RPM).
80 Liquifire (purchased 1996 ~ Running)
80 Liquifire (purchased 2010 ~ Running....Now)
80 Liquifire (purchased 2011 ~ Not running - I officially have a problem now)
83 Snowfire (purchased 2014 father/son restoration project)
78 Spitfire ~ sold (should have been shot for this)

thanks, what i need is the maximum rpm to hit with out going past the power band and over reving the engine when i go to set up my clutching. are you saying this is a 9,000 rpm engine in stock form?

Check out the 1982 Fine Tune manual over at Vintagesnow.com, it should be able to help you: http://www.vintagesnow.com/John_Deere_f ... neTune.pdf.
Also search for posts on here by user "That Girl Racing" and you will probably find a ton of useful info.

Re: in need if some 1983 liquifire information
Hello Andy,
The 80-84 Liquifire generally tops out about 8,200 in stock form, but power is falling off after 7,800 rpm or so. The HSR (High Speed Retard) ignition the 82-84's came with give you much better low end than the 80-81 versions.
I hope this helps, and good luck with your sled.

hey guys, it was great meeting you also. here's the latest (sorry no pics yet) the sleds been striped and the next step is the carwash. after that its time to get the angle grinder out, most of the bellypan sheet metal will be removed except for a "frame" so I have something to rivet the new aluminum pan to I fabricated. im doing this to get the weight down. its a very heavy chassis. ill try to get some pictures as I go.........
