im shooting from memory here but I believe the spindle bushings are a common part at the bearing supply houses , I know the 340/s ones are and I believe the 78s are either the same deminsions or they are available I get a chance ill dig into it a little , im in corn shelling mode now, hopefully time for sleds in the near future wade

Back 40 riding, just want to get the steering tighter, left ski is moving about an inch or maybe a little more, right ski is tighter. Want it safe for myself and family.

Paul you should be able to find the pins at your favorite local Farm Supply store.

Otherwise MCM has them.

Danzig, I'd put Grade 8 bolts in them, they won't wear & then you also can tighten the bolt to take up some of the side play, I think we used 5/16" ones in the race sleds?? another thing to ck is the spindle holes as they wear oblong, I think Deere had us re-boring the holes to 7/16" then we used Grade 5 or 6 there, we also used bolts in the rear of the ski's also to take up the slack there also..

Just a thought..

Ken,
You saying to bore the spindle hole larger, find larger outer diameter bushings with a larger inner diameter to accept a 7/16 bolt ?

Finding bushings.....hmmmmmm ?

The spring is sliding on the rear pin between the mounting lobes on the ski, this is causing lots of movement.

measure the hole in the rear of the spring & see if it's wore if it is try to enlarge it by drilling so you can use a larger bolt to get the dia & clearances right. yes if you can find larger steel bushings or use cold rolled steel seamless tube that will take up the ID that you need to bore the spindle out to make the spindle have a perfectly round ID again.
I hope that makes sense.

Any little thing you can do to make the skis/steering tighter helps.

But remember it can't be too tight as everything has to move also.

You could even go so far as to use drilled bolts that have a grease fitting on the head so you can lube up those loops.
