suspension shocks
Ok, so I'm back to working on my sleds and I'm still frustrated with one thing, the suspension shocks that are shot! After all of this time has anyone found a bolt on replacement gas shock for the trailfire and sportfire? I know a few of you have made some shocks work that didn't quite fit right but I really don't have time to do much more than bolt them on.

Re: suspension shocks
I don't have the part #, but you can take the measurements off your original shock and find one at Dennis Kirk. I bought a few and I think they were Kimpex replacements for a Cat or Polaris, but the dimensions were the same. Seem to work fine and they were like $25 each.
Not cheap, but you can also find NOS from

Re: suspension shocks
I spent a little time in NAPA today and came up with a shock for 1939-1950 Chrysler/dodge and 1950-51 vw bugs that should work for $30. I ordered one and will be test fitting it Wednesday. I'll let you know!

Re: suspension shocks
So I got the shock mounted today and it seems to work fine. I did have to trim the rubber bushings a bit but nothing major. I got a foot of bushing stock 5/8 x 3/8 and cut it into 1 1/4"lengths then drilled them to 7/16 and installed. The shock is about 3/4" longer when extended but I don't think it will be a problem. I've got some pics if I can figure out how to post them.

Matt, was that a "press out" / "press in" bushing replacement?

Re: suspension shocks
just like largecar said... you have to drill out the rubber on the new shock a little and burn out the rubber on old shock to get bushing out and install and RIDE!largecar04 wrote:So I got the shock mounted today and it seems to work fine.
