Custom 76 liquifire

Post by chriszildjian17 »

I started earlyer this summer. Took a break. Now I'm back at it. I have been posting this build on vs as well.

Starting with a banged and bashed 76 liquifire. Honestly this sleds is so bad, most people would scrap. Not me. Tunnel is the only straight piece on this sled. Not going to tell you plans. See as I go.

The pictures make it look way better than it really is. I believe some one rolled this down a canyon.

The motor is rough but does run good on spray. Won't be using this. That's for another time. There is about 3 1/2 inches of oily sludge every where.

. Pulled the chain case plug, got nothing. Pulled the cover and there was a few drips sitting at the bottom. Everything looks to be in good shape. The sled was actually was just ridin all winter. Makes me wonder how it could have run all winter with no oil in the chain case. My only explanation is, It's a Deere.

Skid is out.track is good other than a few cleats. The suspension it's self is rough. I don't understand how the track could have moved.

Motor is out. Thought I would fix a few dents that were bugging me. Little did I know. The pan was trashed beyond repair. But didn't know that at this point.

Forgot to take more pics of this process, but the pan is skinned. Ordered a fiberglass replacement from lee fredrickson. I will use some 3m bonding aheasive and rivets to attach. That Will be on a future post.

Here is the carnage. Overall real easy to get off. Few rivets and about 38 spot welds. Had it off in about 15 min. Was to excited to stop and take pics of taking it off.

Tried a xtra 10 but scrapped that idea. It sat to high in the rear.

OK got my pan from lee fredrickson.Pictures do not do justice to show how nice they really are. Full detail all the way down to the jd spot welds and wrinkling from the original stamping. It feels a few pounds lighter than the aluminum pan. I'm not going for weight savings though. If I really wanted to shave some pounds I would hit the gym.

Got some time to fit the glass pan to its new home. Need to pick up some more rivets, 3m bonding adhesive, and some seam sealer for the final placement. Only that that worries me is the front bumper tabs. I may have to make some reinforcement plates for those.
