Mikuni carb overflowing

Post by wiseslider »

Hiya fellas. Well I got my 79 440 running. Now the problem I am having is that the overflow on the carb is dumping fuel left right and centre. The float bowl won't stop taking fuel and she spills out the overflow like a fountain. Is it the main jet? Needle jet? Air screw? I have no idea what to try here. Carb was taken apart, cleaned and put back together and now this. Any ideas?

You have a poor seal between your needle and seat. ......or the float height is set incorrectly. Clean your needle and seat again use a wooden golf tee in the seat and gently burnish the locating surface with the golf tee. As for the flora check and make sure it's set correctly and make sure it does not have a hole in it.

Paul pretty much covered it, sounds like an inlet needle issue. They are readily available. Also make sure your floats are not upside down.

And make sure your floats actually float.

If there is a pin hole or a spot that worn through from rubbing they get fuel and them and will not float.

Just put them in a glass of water to check.

You can also test the needle and seat with a hand vacuum tool. Works really well.
