1975 JD 400 Fuel pump???

So I'm starting to work on the 400 I bought a few months ago. There is a fuel pump mounted by the carb. It had no fuel lines on it and no indication it had fuel lines on it. I have a 1977 300 with the same style carb and it has no fuel pump. Can someone shed some light on why it is there?

The motor was replaced at one point with a KEC-340/5A. Not sure what the A is for. The original motor must of had a float carb on it hence the fuel pump.

The fuel pump was used for pumping gylcol down to the slides when they oval raced that 400.

Ok my that was a stretch.

Did this machine have a Bendix carb on it at one time?

Maybe it was for injecting nitrous for hill climbing?
