I have a '74 300 that I'm still trying to get going.. I had the cylinders popping off on its own with a mikuni conversion last week, but won't keep going. I've advanced the fly-weight on the flywheel cam when setting the gaps, but still can't get it and it's just becoming a headache now. Was wondering if anyone has ever tried, attempted, successfully put a Kohler 340 2-cylinder CDI system from a spitfire onto a 295 2ax??? That's my next idea for this project.
Let me know!

Are you asking if a cdi box will work with a points flywheel?

Im thinking you wanna do a complete conversion correct.. points can be a pain sometimes but you should be able to get it running. just checking its got an inline fuel pump on it right

He means the whole thing - stator, CDI, coils, but I don't know if they work or not. I believe it's a completely different engine, so I doubt it.

Re: Kohler 295 2ax w/ CDI?
What I was thinking of doing is take the flywheel, and points & condenser plate off and install a stator, CDI and flywheel from a spitfire Kohler 340. I've never heard of this done so I thought I'd ask.
Thanks guys!

Waterboy7,
I have never tried this, but the crankshaft is the same from the K295-2AX to the Kohler powered Spitfire, so the flywheel should fit. I do not know if the stator will bolt into the cases, but I assume if your were determined enought it could be machined to match the Spitfire cases, if they are different.
Good luck, and please share your results if it works.

Re: Kohler 295 2ax w/ CDI?
We'll guys I had a guy, about an hour away from me, replace the condensers and point and then he timed them too... I put a mikuni on it and had it running about two weeks ago! I still want to try the CDI idea in the future though! Now that I have acquired a couple more Kohler 295 2ax's, and have a better knowledge with the engines since my first project, I'm going to experiment with the CDI idea. So PM me if anybody has an old spitfire (w/ a Kohler 340) laying around
Thanks- Rylie
