Well the snow started to fallhere in the U.P. so its time to put the boat up and look at the sled,a 78 Liquifire 440. Pulled the engine out, will need both pistions as they are both erroded away to the top ring at the exhaust port.[img]

Try compressing the photo's to "document" size and see if that works.

A quick update, the engine cylinders were in very good shape, just had then honed, new pistions, rings, and pins(Kioritz's even ),new crank seals, clutch and carb's cleaned up. Engine is back together and fired up on the 5th pull, warmed her up, sounds good. Will retorque the cylinder head now that its cooled off.

Pulled the skidframe out of her today, looked good, all pivot shafts had been greased in the past so it came apart nice! Cleaned them all up and regreased along with the rear wheel bearings, even the shock felt good! Will be looking for a drive axle in the future, someone had drilled and bolted the drive cogs on thus weakening the axle, no jumping this old girl, thats for sure untill thats replaced.

Re: Starting a rebuild of a 440lc out of a 78 Liquifire.
The drive wheels (cogs) are held in place by bolts. If the bolt holes in the drive axle are oblonged then by all means replace the drive axle. Also check the cogs to see of they're oblonged. If the bolts have always been tight then the wearing of the holes should not be a problem. Hey T-roy (HoosierDeereMan) can you help advise Air Mechanic? T-roy has had multiple issues with drive cogs on a 78 LF.

Thanks for the info,I was looking in a 72-77 CLYMER manual for John Deere and saw the bolts too late last night. One cog is a little loose on the axle so it may be a issue but a least I know it is a factory setup!

A shot of the dash of her idling.I found that my old used Cat belts off of 97 EXT600 TRIPLE fit rather well on this and clutching-trail performance seems real good!! Knew I kept those old belts for a reason!
