KEC 440 Timing setting

Would anyone know the timing setting for a KEC 440 with a serial number of 4500500?? I am thinking it is 0.015" BTDC on the piston (Static) but would like to know for sure.

Any help would be great.

Is the ignition points or CDI?

Points, with Denso ignition. I was able to find that serial numbers 2500000 - 3599999 are all 0.015 BTDC but cant find anything for 4500000 serial numbers.

Is this a piston port or reed valve kec440?

From what I can find The piston port kec440s used in deere sleds had a factory timing spec of .023in btdc for 72/73 (sled serial sub 20000) or .015in btdc for the 74- (sn 20000+)
The reed valve kec440s in deeres were .009in btdc, except for 73 (sn sub 20000) jdx8 which used the .023btdc spec

I don't know how this corresponds to the engine serial numbers, though.

Are there any numbers after kec440 on the engine model tag? (E.g. Kec440/22)
If not, and all it says is kec440 - it should be a piston port 72 or 73 engine, ie a jd 400 500 or 600 sled = .023 spec
If model Kec440/5 = .015btdc

The kec440/21 /22 and /22a are all reed valve engines ie jdx8 or jd 800 sled. Look at engine intake manifold for reed cages to confirm, just in case someone swapped the fan tower.
Use the .009 spec for the /22 or /22a and the .023 Btdc for the /21

The sled is a 1972 JD 500. The engine tag only says KEC 440, it is piston ported with Denso ignition. The issue I am having is that I'm not sure this is the original engine. Therefore I am going by the engine serial number instead of the JD service manual chart. The CCW service manual shows 440 engines with serial number 2500000 - 3999999 should be set to 0.015" on the piston (static). My engine is a 4500000 so I am wondering if it is 0.015 or something else.

I have timed it at both 0.015 & 0.023 BTDS static and is seems to run better at 0.015.

Question: If I time it according to the JD service manual, is that on the piston (static) or advanced????
