running poor at low and mid range

Post by marklm »

I have 80 trailfire 440 and just put the engine back in after crank and crank seals and crank o-ring replacement with new gaskets and got it running. Then engine starts ok and will idle ok runs strong at full throttle but it hesitates and does not run good at lower rpms. There was no air box on the sled. I ordered parts for that. And I wanted to see what groove that the clip was on the needle jet so I checked that out and found there is no plastic part between the clip and the slide like the manual says there should be. Does anyone know what kind of issues these two things can cause?
(no air box and missing plastic part above the carb slide) thanks for any knowledge on this issue.

go to technical information, manuals from vintagesnow, and select service manuals, then select tune up guide for 79-81 sleds. a lot of good tuning info. jet needle has a lot of effect on mid range throttle. this info tells all about carburation. no airbox- lean, no washer- inconsistent and lean

My part arrived and it is not the plastic part. Its the metal one that keeps the cable in its place. Sorry for misleading anyone. Now if anyone knows where to get that part on line appreciate info. Ill probably try the bone yard.
