carb help?

Post by sledhead16 »

So this is the carb that came with the 1980 Trailfire 340 unattached. What's gonna be the best way to soak this or clean it in, what chemical or process. I don't have a parts washer unfortunately.

If you have anyone near you that has an ultrasonic cleaner, that's where I'd start.

Ultra sonic cleaner would be the best.

I know it sounds strange. But soaking over night in Pine Sol will do wonders for it. Completely disassemble it, put all the pieces in containers, put enough Pine-Sol in each container to cover the pieces, let soak all night. Remove the pieces rinse with water, blow dry with compressed air, reassemble.

This has worked wonders for me.

Straight Pine-sol put the whole carb in after you disassemble it. Carb and all the pieces. You will see it start to bubble.

Solvents work also but some will attack the rubber/plastic parts.

Kerosene works. A tooth brush and a small pick will get the crud out of corners.

Overnight soaking works best.
