HI, I can get it to start and just barly idle. Even if I give it gas from the primer and open the throttle( yes it does slide all the way open in the carb) it just idles along. Sled was running great one day, then this the next. Any help would be very much appreciated
Thanks, Brian. It is a isn't a kawasaki. I will see if I can get another cdi box, thanks again, Stu

If you look in the FAQs, you will find a topic for troubleshooting your CDI box.
It sounds like it might be worthwhile to check it out. If it wasn't getting enough fuel, I would think it would die when you open the throttle. At any rate, it could be a problem in your stator, or the box itself.

Stu,
It may be that your stator is putting out low voltage, check it before buying a new CDI box.

Ok, so what is the voltage supposed to be? I was hoping for a big red button I could push and all would be well :)I am not much of a mechanic, just trying my best to keep the sleds going for the kids, thanks again for your help!!

Have you done some simple things like trying new plugs? I always look for a few important things when having a running problem like this. Have you done a compresion check it is very important to make sure your working with a good motor before driving yourself nuts testing and replacing things.

I imagine the CCW stator is tested much the same as the Kawasaki, a resistance test will often tell the tale. I do not have the specs, as my newest service manual only goes to '76.
HarleySportster, here on this site, may have the specs if no one else offers.
Oh yeah, Andy is correct in sugesting you check the simple stuff as best you can first.

Stu,
Sorry but I do not have info on the ignition for the Kohler or Kawi engines. Did you check the compression. I would also check the crank seals either by the prssure test method or the spraying with carb cleaner method.
