How the heck does one remove these ski spindles off the JD sleds? I never did get mine off my 80 TF and i've now got a 76 Cyclone and same deal.
i've got the skiis removed for reconditioning. I've loosened the bolts that attach the steering arms to the spindles but the arms won't come off. The service manual says to drive the spindles out with a punch. I've used release all spray and pried and punched to no avail!! What gives??

Re: removing ski spindle
If pinch bolt is off or loose, try an air hammer on the spindle top. Maybe spread the arm with a chisel.

Re: removing ski spindle
On most of the earlier sleds you need to take the bolt all the way out. Spindle has a slot in it. Tom

Re: removing ski spindle
You have to remove the pinch bolts completely. The top of the shaft has a rounded groove cut into it that the bolt slides thru. Once the bolts are out, use a punch and hammer them out. sometimes you may need to spread the clamp by driving a thin chissel into the slot then drive out the spindle.luvzvintage wrote:How the heck does one remove these ski spindles off the JD sleds?
