critique my plugs please
I'm doing some ditch banging and it's finally running well. How do these plugs look to the trained eye?

Reading plugs is harder than reading the wind for a long distance rifle shot on a calm cloudy day. The first one looks cocoa brown, the second looks a bit lean. What machine, which sides of the engine, and how long were they in?

Re: critique my plugs please
I understand. The first time they were so lean the space station could have seen them.
It's an 82 sport fire that has been harassing me since I got it.
The first one is the pull start side, second is the drive side.
I'm still missing the small washer that goes under the e clip in the slide needle, so I'm figuring it would be a slight lean condition from the needle being just a hair more closed than it should be.
I just want to see if anyone noticed something way off base.
Sorry for the crappy pics and short reply, I'm on my phone in a field.

You must have something else causing a lean condition on the PTO side if the plugs look that different on a Sportfire. The first plug appears rather normal, so if an incorrect fuel mixture is the issue, both should show it and they don't. Crank seal leak?

They look not bad to me, as long as your getting good oil supply I wouldn't be overly concerned, but best to put that ring in anyhow

Thanks guys.
I don't understand the one lean plug either but it's just been that way for awhile. It is probably time to retorque everything again. It has just been rebuilt.
I will try to find a washer that fits. I don't see a part number listed for it.

Sure looks better than before when the one plug had white specks of alum on it.
Remember better to error on the rich side as a fouled plug is cheaper to replace than a pistion.

Re: critique my plugs please
I just looked at my Sportfire's plugs yesterday after riding last weekend, and they look about the same, one is slightly off from the other. This could be because the side by the fan cools a little better.

Thanks Todd and Matt.
I think I'm going to live with it as much as this thing has fought me.
But just to prove I am having fun with it, here is a little video of yesterday.

I think there may be more in it.

That is a valid observation. I bet that plastic fan shroud deal is supposed to alleviate some of the difference in cooling between sides of the engine.Matt wrote:I just looked at my Sportfire's plugs yesterday after riding last weekend, and they look about the same, one is slightly off from the other. Re: critique my plugs please
Thank you. We have gotten about 8-16 inches the past week or so and another 10 forcast for the next couple of days.
I'm using a GoPro 3 White edition mounted on the helmet. I absolutely love that camera.
I am uploading some better videos from yesterday right now. I will post links.
The sled seems to run better the more I ride it. I was giving my brother's Exciter a run for his money across some of the fields. It was fun.

You need to find another JD for your brother to ride.
