Sweet! I just bought a 77 440 that has the same air cleaner on it. They should have the original air box and tube on them to run properly.

Cheers! Well now I know it runs I can start to look at more of a restoration. Its not doing bad for a $150 project sled so far!

Nice project it looks like you have a nice straight tunnel and it has paint still on it not like mine the one I got it was moved around with a fork lift and skid steer before I got it good luck they are fun sleds and pretty straight forward to work on.

Thanks!

Quick update is that its temporarily dead again. The CDI box we took from the spare 340 motor has also given up the ghost meaning I'm now the owner of two dead CDI boxes. However a replacement is on order so the sled should be back up and running again soon!

Finally after almost 18 months of inaction I took the Cyclone for its first run :D

The replacement CDI box came in last weekend so my buddy got it hooked up on Sunday. As a bonus he also reinstalled the electric starter from the old motor while he was at it.

I gotta admit...I wasnt expecting it to be as fast as it was. For an almost 40 year old sled it still hauls - I managed to get a good half hour of mixed riding in, with some fast flat stuff along a river as well as a bit of slower deeper stuff. It may not handle like the newer sleds but it was a lot of fun and well worth the money. Even with the spares i've had to buy I'm only out $250.

The only spoiler on the night was when it stopped again on the way back to the farm. It turned out to just be a loose wire, but in popping the hood we found that the casing around the recoil had sheared its bolts. :( Luckily I have a spare from the 340 - will that fit the 440?

What made it extra fun was that my buddy's '72 Ski-doo also gave up the ghost leaving us to walk back and get his '04 Arctic Cat to come and tow both the dead sleds back!

So my task for this year now is to start collecting up some of the missing parts to make it a bit more comfortable to ride. The seat is top of the list along with the rear bumper, lights, flap and handles. It also needs a little more work under the hood on the electrics as I'm pretty sure the voltage regulator is packed in. Oh and the brake doesnt seem to work either. All in all plenty to do before next winter.

This is one Deere I hope still has a long life ahead of it!
