Need a head for a 78 Liquifire.

Post by air mechanic »

After getting my Liquifire rebuilt and doing some test runs have found a hair line crack at the plug hole that goes to the coolant jacket. :boohoo: (Was cross threaded and retapped sometime in the past) Does anyone know of some reputable junk yards that ship, other than the head the old girl just needs the hood painted and new stickers at this point.(planned for this summer)

air mech,

I have an NOS (new, old-stock) head I could part with. I am pretty sure it's for a 440, but need to check the year.

Yes, I may be interested in that, you never know what your getting popping heads off of junk yard engines. Its a Kioritz 440 engine, they had 340cc also. I believe 76-78 440cc Liquifire will work. I have a complete parts engine but apon taking it apart found someone had "cleaned" the head with a wire wheel along with other things.

The 76 head is different from the 77/78 version. it will bolt on, the combustion chamber is different.

Is the 76 head have a slightly smaller combustion chamber? I know from reading that Deere started to drop there C/R's for the lower octain fuels at this time. Replacement pistons are the same so clearance should be fine. I do run non-alcohol premium in my sleds, though thats not the same as the old leaded premium. For some reason I do have access to 100LL AV gas, hmmm.

I am planning to go to the Big Bay snowmobile show this weekend ( U.P.) so maybe I can get a lead or something there (they made about 10,000 over 3 years I think). JoeRainville,if the head you have is for my engine, yes I am interested.

Air Mech,

I just checked the PN and it's correct for the 77-78 Liquifire 440: M66828. The head is new in the original box if you are interested.

$40 plus act shipping.
