Why are these a different part number than an 80? 81?
Many new and used parts available, I ship anywhere. Thanks everyone.

Different secondary for the 1- 3/8" M69170 belt, so the shaft is longer.

Just to let everyone know that secondary from a 80-81 will work on the later machines or vice versa. The only thing that is different is the material bushings are made from and the thickness of the limiting washer that stops the secondary from opening up as far. It has nothing to do with how far it closes for the belt width. I disassembled both of them and every part is the same. I don't have a early shaft to measure the machined end to compare too but assume it must be different to make up for the wider belt on later models. Maybe more shims on a old shaft will do the same thing??? To sum it all up the secondary is exactly the same early-late other than bushing material used and thickness of limiting washer. That is why the part numbers are different.

Farmer, you hit the nail on the head. I just reread the original service bulletin. The washer is the key. Tom

Farmer has this shaft thing doped correctly. The newer shaft is supposed to be 20% stronger and has an increased shoulder to accommodate fewer washers while the overall length is identical. The stationary sheave on 82 and up machines has longer towers to accommodate the wider belt, so I would guess that swapping them would require using the appropriate belt. Perhaps I should have consulted the book first. :bonk:

Maynard - I have a nice used shaft and secondary clutch from an 81 Liquifire. If you're going to RWTC, let me know ahead of time and you can stop by my place on the way and pick it up.
