Hey everyone, I have a failed HSR ignition. I want to try and reverse engineer the electronics and was wondering if anyone would know a good way to remove the resin without damaging the internal components. There must be a way to do it, because Image Enterprises used to rebuild these a while back. Thanks in advance!

Re: Advice on destroying an HSR ignition
I seem to remember Rich Acre saying something about boiling them to remove the resin.

I second the nod to Scott at Hewtech. I've often wondered if he could produce something that could replicate an HSR to be used on the 80 and 81 LFs but haven't brought it up to him.

Would a zip wheel on a die grinder work to cut a small slot through the epoxy?
Any thin rotary blade should cut though it fine, just don't go to deep. But if it is buggered what do you have to loose?

I am sure Hewtech could design a replacement box but as always it is whether he could sell enough to make it feasable.

Re: Advice on destroying an HSR ignition
I am trying to remove the resin in a way that I can see the coding on the components. Japanese or American, most all electrical components are color and symbol coded the same. The end goal is to make a CDI that is compatible with an external coil. After that, I will need to figure out the stator and flywheel differences and make them work as well. I will keep you all posted on my progress.
Thanks.
Thanks.
