Bob, Looking at the hood the only other info I know of is the sponsor :lkvl ftgn oil was owned by his twin brother Jerry, he delivered fuel oil to homes in the area. He's still lives here but he's not a real personable guy (never seems to be in a good mood). The large orange plate on the side is actually a dealer plate from MN. We used to get those when my father brought home sleds from John Deere for demo's. I'm guessing they were left on there for using it locally on the trails. Also as far as I remember that sled always had that yellow hood on it and it stuck out in a crowd (that's probably why he did it.) I can't believe how these snowmobiles show up after all this time and it looks like somebody to good care of it. Paul

I spoke in an email with a prior owner who actually did the resto and stated that the original sled was in very rough shape when he got it from the 2nd owner. So, if my math is right, I am the 5th owner. I should clarify that the sled was in rough shape when Mr. Zimmer sold it over 30 years ago. I appreciate all of the comments and look forward to hearing more.

I received these two pictures today. 1977 ICCSF they thought.

It's hard to see being in black and white, but Ol' Yeller is in there. And so is Bobby Enns #3 and his ETD Dator. Maybe JRC in there too?

Would the #1 Arctic Cat be Brian Nelson?

I think I'd keep it in the yellow as she was raced. When you have pictures of it at the races it makes it come alive and uneque,it is no longer just a production # out of the whole. Its great every time one of these old race sleds is brought back,as these old war horses went to battle and were just pounded on to win races at the time with no thought to keep it nice.

The poor kid, he has his dad telling him to get rid of the yellow hood asap. It's no wonder he's conflicted

What a great sled and history.

I have to vote for the yellow hood. It is just too unique and special to take it away from this sled. Reproduced hood are available, you can always have the original hood, repro yellow hood and repro original dator looking hood.

I like it alot.

Bob, those pic's are from the winter of 76-77. The 77 Cross Country Cat LC 340 was a one year only sled, and the #1 should be Brians sled. I don't think Bob was #3 in 1976 either, but I would have to ask him for sure. The "ETD" logo on the top of the hood were the "340" stick normally was is also a give away to 1977.

Cool sled you have there, glad to see you finally got a Dator. But, remember Lindners quote about his 340/s'. Something like he had rode sleds all his life, but has not had a day of rest since getting into the race sleds...

Later Liquidator!

Hey Bob,glad to see you got that Dator. It sure has some history attached to it. I remember meeting James Zimmer at some of the ICCSF races in 76 & 77, you couldn't miss the bright yellow hood.
Bob the pics you have are of my #3 Dator at the start line in the76- 77 season. Location looks like a lake race somewhere ( maybe Mile-Lacs ) also Brian's #1 cat is in the pic.

I'd leave it yellow, reproduced or not. Way cool with the original racing décor.
