Noticed this today. Its a TA440B. So I guess its out of a sportfire? Anyway to tell what year this motor is?

Yea, looks to be Sportfire. If there is no sign of oil Injection, it's '80 - '82.

Sounds good! The problem with using a differant pipe(300 stock) is it will not be tuned to that engine at all so your performance will fall off and carburation will be off..

I have lost some sleep knowing that it could be running lean with this setup. I'm running 40:1 mix as a precaution. Finding the right pipe to fit with the 440 stuffed in there is difficult without a bunch of different pipes to try. Also the carb sticks out almost to the point you cant close the lid. Not to mention there isn't room for a airbox(lean) or a filter even. I dont know, I'm starting to think that maybe I should put a stock motor back in before I melt the sportfire motor. Then if i come along a decent sportfire with a blown motor i'd have a motor ready to pop in it. What do you guys think, leave it in? Or pull it out in the spring and make it original?

You could find a good 440 CCW for it and you would have more power than the Kohler 300.
