Update: just tore apart my engine fan shrouds to paint them and noticed I had some loose nuts on the heads... I used to have 94 psi compression on the left cylinder and 105 on the right. I torqued the nuts back down before I installed the painted shrouds and now have 120 psi on both cylinders! That's a plus :) And now I don't have any problems starting up, with the engine cold or hot! Looks like its worth doing some beauty work.

That really is a nice machine. I don't have a lot of affection for John Deere machines but its plain to see that you have worked hard and that has paid off. Well done. I browse this board now and then just cause I love old sleds, but someone recently gave me a Spitfire with a burnt piston so when I rebuild the engine I'll post a few pics.

Thanks, kube1. Yeah it took me 4 years to get this far, and I'm very happy with the results. I'll post some more pics when I have all the trim on it! -Rylie
