Re: 1976 john deere cyclone
ok decided to check carb adjustments before putting it back on since I down loaded a manual for it. way off weren't close. air screw was out 3 1/2 turns, clip in needle was on 3rd groove but kicker was it was on top of the hold down so needle was free floating and way over rich. choke weren't any better was running half choke. no wonder it was dumping oil and fuel out exhaust. have a new problem, think pick up line is rotted off in tank, does the fitting screw into the tank? also took it around the house for quick shake down. seems pretty peppy.

On the tank, if you pull the metal nipple out you can pop the rubber seal and replace it. The rubber seal is still available through deere.

Re: 1976 john deere cyclone
Pretty sure all the 76-78 LF and Cyclone tanks used a threaded in fitting. It's a good idea on any of the sleds to check the condition of the in-tank fuel line and pick up filter.
Also, if you have the drive clutch off again, I would suggest removing the dust can that is held in place by the cover and it's 6 bolts. It holds in heat and crud.
Nice job on the sled, she looks good.

Re: 1976 john deere cyclone
ok thought it looked to be threaded in plastic piece, I just didn't want to start twisting on it. ya I also cleaned clutches when stuff was apart. blew them out and cleaned them with break cleaner. still got to clean oxide off motor and clutch faces but didn't have steel wool or scotch bright pad and thank you for the help
