Tail/marker light

Post by sledz »

I had this light kicking around for a while and am wondering if it is in fact a John Deere part? If the pic uploads for me you'll see a John Deere sticker with what looks to be PN 5430184. I'm sure its not the later generation stuff but am unsure if it could be from earlier JD sleds...or maybe its from an implement?

Can anyone identify this light or PN??

The PN does not match any Deere numbers. There is also no letter prefix either, such as "AM52000" or "M64000" etc. It is not a Deere snowmobile tail light either, as all the 73-84's used the same light (AM52305) and the 72 model 400 and 500 had a flat rectangular tail light.

Not sure what you have there exactly, sorry.

I think it's a marker light from a John Deere trailer.

Could anybody with a John Deere trailer confirm or dispute this? I suppose somebody could have just randomly stuck a JD sticker on there with some sort of PN :bonk: It may be possible that it is a light from a JD tractor, did all JD PN's have letters preceding a # or was it just snowmobiles??

It is not a light off of JD73, JD74, or JD76 snowmobile trailer. Those lights are almost flat. Could be off the JD648 or JD972 but the number for those lights don't match up either. They would be part number AM32368 for red light and M44149 for red lens.

All JD part numbers have the prefix as far as I know.

Did a Google search on that part number, and found this from a cached Vintagesleds.com classified page (it's not on VS any more) with this picture and this description : Vintage Polaris Tail Light Lens. Qty 2 part # 5430136, Qty 4 part # 5430184..... So it looks like someone used a JD decal on a Polaris part.

I recognized that as a Polaris part # the moment I saw it. Not at all unusual to see JD parts tags used on Polaris parts. In the early 1990s when I started a Polaris dealership, it was common to see new parts come from Polaris with John Deere tags on them. I guess when Polaris purchased all of Polaris's inventory, the purchase also included loads of merchandising materials and Polaris made good use of everything they could. It was also common to see Polaris parts show up in John Deere bags.
