Re: fire series shock wanted
Those are hard to come by but i did find a cheap replacement gas shock last year that i used on my trailfires and 83 & 84 sportfires. Its available at napa & oreillrys for under $30 and you just need to swap the steel bushings with your old ones and i trimmed the rubber on the top mount. Its a sensa trac 5752.

Re: fire series shock wanted
LC,
Be careful with using a longer than stock shock. It can allow the suspension to over extend and let the top shock mount contract the track. On the rubber track sleds like the 82-84 Sport and 80-84 Liquifire, it can tear out the center row of drive lugs.
That said, I know aftermarket 80+ Liquifire shocks were still listed by Dennis Kirk and others, but I have not looked into a replacement for the Trail or Sports.
I hope this helps,
-Joe

I also am currently looking for a shock for my 1983 sportfire, so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Joe I looked at that shock on dennis kirk and it is 1/2 shorter when it is fully extended than the trailfire/sportfire shock do you see that being a problem?
Thanks,
Mark

Re: fire series shock wanted
Hey guys Joe is right. The longer shock will tear up the center drive lugs also it would allow the suspension to over extent causing the rear springs to pull off of their perch and possibly cause major damage. This question has come up several times in the past. I know some guys are getting gas shocks built, but I for 1 am never going to drop 3 bills for a custom shock.

Re: fire series shock wanted
The liquifire shock doesn't have a rubber bushing in the lower end. I suspect you'd have to come up with something for that.

You could put a limiter strap on the rear arm to prevent overtravel.

Re: fire series shock wanted
I put quite a few miles on 3 of my sleds with those shocks with no problems. Granted I wasn't ramping off of the ground but I did go through a wide variety of terrain. There is no way the springs are coming off with these shocks and I'm almost positive they don't allow the upper shock mount to contact the track HOWEVER I'm going to check my 83 sportfire when I get home and allow the suspension to max out and check the clearance. I'm be home on Saturday and will report back to you. I believe they're a great replacement when there doesn't seem to be any others available for less than $90 anywhere else

I just purchased a nos shock from Richard Acre, give him a call 1 989 292 2624 he has every thing I have ever needed. Richard told me if he didn't have the parts, New Breed parts would them, Matt stocks a lot of parts. Thanks lincoln

Re: fire series shock wanted
I just spoke to and ordered some shocks from Bob at Image Enterprises. He has NOS Shocks for Trailfire / Sportfire. He also makes an in-house Gas shock replacement for $89.00. I just ordered 2 from him.

Re: fire series shock wanted
Watch what you get because he told me the liquifire trailfire sportfire were all the same shock. They are different lengths so I didn't buy from him.Liquifried wrote:I just spoke to and ordered some shocks from Bob at Image Enterprises. He has NOS Shocks for Trailfire / Sportfire. Many new and used parts available, I ship anywhere. Thanks everyone.

Re: fire series shock wanted
The liquifire is a different shock. It uses the additional aluminum shaft on the swing arm. Not the same as trail fire and sportfire. You can get parts Unlimited liquifire shocks at Dennis Kirk for 24 bucks each.
