My JD 800 Restored

Ok, I'm new to this site, but have always been interested in JD sleds. Lot of buddies dads had them when I was growing up. So I came across this 75' 800 on e-bay a few years back, and finally restored it this last summer/fall. I've been working in the oil fields in western North Dakota, so had to rent a storage unit all summer. The sled had not run in 21+ years, and the CCW 440, upon inspection was burnt up from the last owner. Wasn't stuck, but needed some major work. A friend's mechanic in Devils Lake, ND rebuilt the motor for me. I completely rebuilt the Walbro Carburetor. Did the finishing touches from my buddy's garage when I got home, and recently fired it up. It was like music to hear that engine light up for the first time. What a sweet sound.

Thanks. One thing I notice is that pictures do not properly show how the John Deere Mean Green looks in daylight. You really have to be standing next to one of these sleds to appreciate that metallic green. Many of you members probably know this, but they haven't made Mean Green (production) for a long time, so I had a shop in Minot re-produce it from some untouched paint I found under the seat. Took some time to blend to the proper proportions, but turned out beautiful. I really like how it looks on a restored Cyclone. Comments are appreciated. Thanks.

I am continually amazed by the resto jobs and the talents you guys have. I really love the look of those sleds and even more so the engine bay with that exhaust pipe. You have done a really nice and clean job.

but have always wonders about the fuel line routing. It being so close to the pipes and the over fear of them melting and ... well... you know.

Thanks for the comments! I think Deere was thinking, or at least trial and error prevailed, as there is a heat shield mounted to the frame that the fuel lines run through to get past the pipe. Should work pretty good. I'm sure someof the other experts here can speak more to that.

On my '75 X8 I ran the lines down the side of the tank into the side pan before coming back up under that head shield, so that might keep it away from the pipe a little better.

That's a good idea Matt, and will keep that in mind if I re-run them after play with this for a while. Did you use another clip or hanger (similar to the headlight harness) to keep it routed where you wanted it?

I don't think so, I think they naturally laid there. Could have been zip-tied to that spindle support bracket.
