Had a very good year end ,on December 30 got the 340 S running.Did a 25 mile test run and now after that I want to race it again but my wife said I don't think so.More info to follow on some of the strange things we had to do to put it back together also pictures to ,when we can figure out how to downsize them on the new iPad.I want to thank Brent and Francisco from Two Amigos Resto for doing the chassis and running gear.

These are the weights that we took out of two different clutches. One was on the motor when I got it back.
It is suggested in the service info that we use P weights, so we put in P weights 41.5gr , the rpm seems to be ok.
Looking for suggestions as to what others are using in there 340/S'

Glen,

My Original clutch was shot. I wound up buying a new Comet 102C #208306 which is what comet showed for a direct 340S replacement. It came with "E" 40.0gram weights. The "E"s do not have the notch in them like the original "P" weights. I put it on just like it came out of the box. Pretty happy with it. I'm not racing just trail riding.

Here is a list of a few things that we did to the 340 /S to get it on the snow.
Motor mounts from bobcat #6560633 for $28.81,About as perfect match as you can get.
Brake line that they use to modify motorcycles, had to purchase a 50 foot roll so I have some leftover.
Throttle cables are universal cables to fit 34 Mikuni carburetor, had to get smaller ends and Silver solder them on for the twist grip. The only difference is that where they come out of the carburetor is a 90° angle opposes to about 22° for the original.
Spindle came from a 300 and modify it because the frame is bent up about 1 1/2 inches on the left-hand side where the spindle goes on and then add a bushing to get the machine sitting level.never noticed it until until after new pan was put on ,this probably happened when I ran the last 5 miles in the Regina to Minot race in 1975 without a ski.
Unravel the wiring harness to find out for sure what wires to put where on the connection to the motor.

Checked the timing and it is 0.022 BTDC is that close enough or should a person go to the trouble of getting it right on the money at 0.090 ?

Glen,

Just my opinion. With the timing being that far off I guarantee you are losing hp. Think about it, at .090BTDC the plug fires and is igniting the gas air mixture in the cylinder. It needs that amount of length of advance timing to fully burn the charge in the cylinder to make full power and take full advantage of the tuned pipe. If it's firing at .022BTDC you aren't fully burning the gas air charge and pumping it out the exhaust. I'd say it's even contributing to carbon build up on the top of the pistons. Advancing the timing the 68 degrees will really wake up the sled. It will also increase combustion temperatures so make sure to read your plugs. Jetting changes may be required.

:needsnow: I was really disappointed when they had to cancel the once-in-a-lifetime ride February 14 from Alexander to Wilmar Minnesota but there's nothing you can do when the snow that is supposed to fall there went east and is still going east. The famous farmer saying is NEXT YEAR and hopefully that will happen after all the hard work that was put in to organize this and it will come to pass next year hopefully.
