Trailfire help!!
Does anyone have a picture of a 80' trailfire 440 air induction system? I have no idea what it is even supposed to look like, and I can't seem to find anything on it. And while we are at it anyone have part or all of it they want to sell? Thanks, Matt

Re: Trailfire help!!
I have seen one on ebay recently. Seems like perhaps even a couple of them, including an NOS one. There is a rubber intake hose that makes a 90 degree turn on the right side so it can pull air from the rear of the hood. There is also a rubber grommet where the carb attaches to the box. If you have an owner's manual, there is a picture of the box and intake hose that explains some of this. You can also find all the part numbers on Deere's website if needed.

Thanks pat I appreciate the help, yeah im kinda just trying to figure out how everything under the hood is supposed to look. Does the cooling fan box also have a hose running to the back? or am I confused? Thanks again I'll check the manual out.

Re: Trailfire help!!
Cooling fan draws air from the front, carb draws air from the rear. There is a small "spigot" (for want of a better word) on the back of the cooling fan shroud that "almost" looks like the carb air box intake hose should fit on, but it doesn't. The end of the "spigot" is sealed - no air passes Seems a little weird to me that an engineer would design the cooling fan shroud the way they did, what with all the parts fitting so well like they do, and then not use it in practice. Oh well. What do I know?

Re: Trailfire help!!
The fan shrouds were like removable side plates on a 4020, they got tossed in the corner when pulled for service work because the machines seemed to operate just fine without them. I'm lost on the shape of the fan intake shroud design as well. It is an engineering contraption that was only on the 440 in 1979 but on all of them thereafter. I had two TF's second hand and neither of them had one, so I never even considered it until I had a parts book.

Ok I need more help I have an airbox(aka. Intake silencer) now what I need is whatever goes from the carb to the airbox or another way to do it. I thought of trying to find an auto automotive radiator hose to fit the carb and cut some heavy foam to make a flange in the hole in the silencer, should work but I'm curious if someone has a picture of what it looks like. Thanks

Re: Trailfire help!!
You would have to measure the diameter hole on the airbox which will be bigger than the carb, I'm not sure how close in diameter that they both are but measure both and maybe the same size hose would work when hose clamped. The length of hose needed would be only 2-3 inches.

Re: Trailfire help!!
Yeah I have heavy duty foam blocks I can get from work, I should be able to cut a circle a little larger than the airbox hole cut a groove around the circumference so it'll lock in the airbox hole, then cut the inside to whatever size I need for the hose, I'm gonna give it a try.
