Ahh yes. That is where I bought the crank seal kit.
I see the cases did not have a gasket, but it looks like they uses a liquid type of sealant. I don't trust myself resealing that way. Is there a gasket I can get for it?

Alight fellas, finally got this torn down to the crank. A few more questions. I promise they will stop at some point.
I've rebuilt a number of dirt bike engines and small engines (lawn mowers, concrete saws, etc.) and I have never had such a hard time pulling the wrist pins as I did with this engine. Is that normal? Also, the circlip retaining rings for the wrist pins were jammed tight against the wrist pin on one side of each piston. I destroyed them when I tried pulling them out. I was thinking maybe they seated the wrist pins tight against the circlips during manufacturing.
Now, to the guy who recommended replacing the crank seals deserves a prize. The spring on the exterior seal was broken and ALL of the seals were loose on the crank. I seals that separate the cranks are really loose too. There are a total of four seals on the crank, but my kit only has three seals? Anybody's guess? I may have purchased the wrong kit.
Anyone up for re-building the crank for me? I don't have the time to develop the tools to disassemble the crank, so if anyone knows where I can ship this too, let me know. Obviously I would pay them for there services.

No gasket is used the seal the crank halves.
If there was a gasket there the bearing races would spin on the crankcase.
It was put together correctly.
As for the wrist pin problem typicaly the over all pin lenght is slightly less than the width of the retainer groves. It works best to remove the retainer with clearance, slide the pin toward the open end and then remove the second clip.

The 2 inner seals cannot be replaced without using special tools and a press. Generally they do not go bad as quickly as the outer seals do. If the bearings seem fine, replace the outer seals and re-seal the case.

Your kit may contain three seals as some KEC engines had a 25mm PTO crank and some have a 30mm.
Normally you only get two seals in a kit.
Inner seals can only be replaced by splitting the crank and this procedure is best left to a professional crank shop.
It is rare to find the inner seal bad unless you had water in your crank or you had metal particals floating around in there.
One more possiblity with the wrist pin issue is that someone replaced the pins and used ones that were too long.

Sounds good guys. I will inspect the inner seals; they felt a bit loose.
What kind of sealant should use for the cases? I think I am going to put new rings on the pistons too. Know where I can buy those? Along with the retaining rings for the wrist pin?

You seal the case halves with an anaerobic sealant such as Yamabond, Kawabond, Threebond, etc.
You use a small amount on each half. If it's oozing out the outside seam, its no doubt oozing into the inside of the case as well. Clean everything well, and make sure the sealing surfaces are not damaged, such as you might get if someone pounded a screwdriver between the haves to pry them apart.

Not sure but you can get it a snowmobile or motorcycle dealer.

Hey guys,
I am having trouble tracking down the correct pistons for my engine. Does anyone know which pistons I need? The side of the cylinder has KEC440 stamp into it. I measured the bore with some decent calipers and its around just under 68 mm.

I sent him a PM. I do have another 500, so I could cannibalize it to make one good engine and part out the rest, but ideally I'd like to get both running.
