I am using Fantom Recoil Rope from Exhaust Gas Technologies. Buy them on Amazon.com for $22.95. It is a 7/32 inch rope. Supposed to be a 5,000 lb rope and won't fray. I wanted to buy good ropes because they always break miles from anywhere and on the Deere snowmobiles they are a pain to get to the recoil.

That looks similar to the SLP rope I used on my 900 twin.

You can use that stuff as a tow rope..ha

Great rope...just looking for something more economical for the Deeres.

To pull the recoil off that 900 you pretty much have to pull the motor out of the chassis!

Thanks!

The local Hardware Hank store has good rope for .20 a foot. Been using that for years.

I use the 7/32" stuff.

And the 1/4" size on some other brands. Some spools wont hold much of the larger diameter.

I always felt that what breaks ropes if reaching the end of travel and then shock load does them in.

But making sure that the rope does not rub on anything and leaves the recoil housing lined up with the guide is very important too.
Many recoils have mutiple positions (several sets of holes). Chossing the position that offers the least amount of rubbing on the housing eyelet will make the rope last longer.

And having that emergeny pull rope in your toolbox will save you from that long walk back home.
