ok I finely got out with my 76 300 runs great BUT its very tippy, my buddy suggested ski spreaders. I've read a lot of post some say they are good some say bad . Has any one used them on a 300 and how well did they work?
Thanks Jeff

Re: ski spreaders
Spreaders work good... butt...
If you wish to ride agressivly and judge the succuess of your day on how much air you get under you machine maybe you best not get them.
They do move the transitional force vectors to angles that spindles do not like nor tollerate when pushed to the limits.
But they can get you up to 6"of additional width and taken in moderation produce a more pleasurable riding experience.

Re: ski spreaders
You may find that turning the shock end for end allows clearence with spreaders installed.

Re: ski spreaders
You will need longer upper mounting bolts and some spacers too.

Re: ski spreaders
My father put some on his 74 JD 300 back in the day, like after or within the first year of owning it. Worked well for us. I should pull the old girl out of the garage at the cabin and go over her,has a bad condencer and would need to be completely gone over. Has not been run in 7-8 years. Still looks good, been stored inside most of its life.
Re: ski spreaders
I was at a friends a couple weeks ago and he had a moto ski "mirage 2" sitting in the shop and I noticed the spindle and saddle bracket were designed wider. I'm not sure about the spindle measurments but i would like to try it. Heres a pic of some off ebay. Not as wide as the spreaders but stronger. Maybe it could be made to work? Just a thought.
Re: ski spreaders
The offset type spindles from the Moto-Ski are very similar to what Yamaha used for many years.
You will find out that the spindle length is way too short to use on a Deere however.
Spreaders work. I have installed dozens of sets on vintage sleds of various colors.
