Sportfire Hood Strap Removal - seeking some advice

Post by Lake City Machines »

This seems like a simple thing but I do not want to mess it up. What is the best way to remove them and reinstall? I want to remove the two straps from the hood so I can do some body work and repaint the hood. Should I drill out the pop rivot from the back side? and then reinstall with a new rivot? The front side is a large smooth cap so how do I get the original look back again when done? Advice would be appreciated. Thank you.

It should be held on by a 1/4 inch bolt.

I use a dremel tool and cut it off from the back. No marks on the outside. Then bolt them back on.

Both my 1983 Sportfire and 1983 Trailfire have pop rivets that attach the hood straps. But now I know what to do - I will grind or drill the back and re-attach with bolts and lock nuts on the back. Thanks for the help guys.
