76 liquifire pistons

Post by ace »

The denniskrk web sit list two different pistons in each size for the 76 liquifire. When i ordered i just ordered one of each because i figured it was 1 for each side. When i got them they each had a different ribbing on the under side of the crown and one felt a little heavier. I weighed them and one is 17 grams heavier. The pistons that were in it both had the same ribbing as the lighter piston. Did these engines come with 2 different weight pistons in one engine or did they use the pistons in different engines. I'm evry confused and dont know what to do. Would it be safe to weight match the pistons i have and assemble it.Thanks for any help.

Ace,
What size were you ordering:
The standard size is:
LH=DK#13-585
RH=DK#13-586
.010 oversize:
LH=DK#13-573
RH=DK#13-574
.020 oversize:
LH=DK#13-587
RH=DK#13-588
.040 oversize:
LH=DK#13-589
RH=DK#13-590
RH=right/MAG SIDE, LH=left/PTO SIDE
What brand pistons did they send you. I received OEM Kioritz pistons each time I bought a set. Yours could be from different manufactures such as Kimpex.

I ordered the standard size. I'm beginning to think the person befor me rebuilt it with the wrong piston in one side. Do you know if these machines came with a heavier right hand piston.

Ace,
I don't know what the piston should weigh but you could have 2 pistons that are from different manufactures. The pistons should weigh the same, the porting is just cut out differently between the 2 sides.

I'm not talking about the cut out sections on the skirt of the piston being different. The bottom side of the crown has ribbing on it and that is what is different between the two pistons and they actually weigh different amounts. Both pistons came from koirtz or some place like that.

Ace,
If the pistons do not weigh the same, I would not use them. It could cause an imbalance in the engine.

What I cant under stand is that on the wedsite denniskirk list the 2 part numbers for each size piston and they designate one for the left side and one for the right side but the pistons don't weigh the same. I think I'm going to have to call them because I dont feel like getting on here and looking for a whole new engine because they sold me the wrong weight pistons and a connecting rod decides it dosen't like the vibrations that result from their mistake and flys apart.

Ace,
I forgot that I had a pair of NOS standard pistons, they weigh aprox. the same at 280 grams. Do your pistons have numbers cast inside of them.

There are 2 numbers cast on the inside of each piston. The left piston says 100010-74222 and 9215 and the right piston says 100026-74821 and 9223

Ace,
Maybe you mistyped the left piston number, it should be 100010-74821.
Both of these pistons are OEM from Kioritz.

I have decided to use the pistons dispite the weight difference. All i need to know now is the torque specs for the head nuts and capscrews. Thanks for all the advice I really appriciate it.

I don't see any upside here. Please reconsider using pistons that are that different in weights. At over 6 grand........how can there be a happy ending?
