Paul: The JD pressure test spec appears to be the same for all models from 1976 on. I am not sure if the same for your JDX8. 7 psi and should not bleed down below 5 psi in 5 seconds. Maybe someone else can confirm spec for your sled???

Yes, seen the ball valve. My point was becareful, 100psi in tank, crack that valve a hair to much....overshoot the 7 psi......or hit 7 psi........takes a fraction of a second to shut valve off.......potential overshoot. If you bleed tank down to say 10 psi, it will flow slower........giving you more time to run the valve.

I used a tire valve on mine and filled with standard tire chuck. With that you can touch air on and stop quickly. Worked good. Not my original idea, it come from Arctic Cat manual.

Just got back in from another jaunt. I took the anti fuel return pickup off the line inside the tank. Nothing changed, problems still there. Problems I do see are getting worse too. I can only now move the sled about 10 feet and it falls on its nose, again pulling the choke full on to regain it.

What is you fuel pump doing? Have you tried an out put test on it? Use a differant tank, small grtavity type. and feed your carb that way, and while it's running check the actual fuel pump output.

Fuel is flowing back Rich. Not a constant flow back to the tank but it flows then an air bubble and flows and so on. Always did this.

This is along shot since I havent looked at 1 of these motors close in some time but Ive tried this to diagnose problems in the past. Look on the crankcase where the nipple for the pulse line is then look on the case on the oppisite cylinder same location and see if theres a bolt/plug in the same spot. If there is you can swap them and try and run it this can help eliminate a bad seal on the original side unless you have a bad center seal. I know its along shot but know youve been fighting this for sometime.

I have the sled at the shop, letting her thaw out now for the morning adventure. I do have a BFH standing by if needed.

Paul just dont use it on the hood. Ive been putting an x8 together from all decent looking peices to have a good looking original not restored sled. Other than the seat cover from John its just decent parts but out of 3 hoods I have none without damage and yours looks alot better than mine.

If the sled would run as good as it looks for being about as old as dirt, I would be getting somewhere. The outside cosmetics are great, under the hood (motor) needs some spucing up, but that will be another day.

A decent handle bar pad would be sweet too, mine is held on by zip ties for now, the steel straps on it got cancer and died.

The hood will be salvaged just for you Andy. Ever been to Sturgis when they burn and drag around a rice burner to its death? Well...........you know the rest of the story.

Yeah Ive got pads held on with black tape. Ive seen many bike week videos of Sturgus but never been there The Buffalo chip campground seemed like a nice place. Just keep the hammer away from the hoos haha. Heres a good story 1 time took the wife riding now she can only ride in a feild since she still cant grasp turning right. I loade the zr580 on the tilt trailer but my sportfire had to be loaded in the truck bed thats where the hood damage took place she was no help in loading and i was [say angered] and I punched the hood well I hurt my hand and busted the vented part. So dont take the frustrations out on an innocent hood..............later and good luck
