Spitfire Suspension Cross Shaft Removal

Anybody know a trick for removing stuck suspension through-shafts? Heat on the outside? I have tried to work liquid wrench, etc., down in there - still stuck. Barring that - anybody have a good non-stuck under carriage for a good price ?! :-) Thanks again.

Do a search here on jdsleds.com as there are many posts about shaft removal. It has been a topic for many years with many solutions. I'm sure you'll find one that works for your sled. Also, you're encouraged to include your name ( at least your first name) on your profile so we can better address you.

It's a bit messy, but what has worked great for me is a rubbermaid plastic tub, two gallons of non deluted Muriactic Acid approximately $10 each. pour the acid right in the tub and set the suspension arm in so the whole shaft is submerged. She will immediately start bubbling and putting off a strong potent gas. Wear rubber gloves and eyewear and a good mask or DON'T inhale the fumes. Make sure this is done OUTSIDE IN A SAFE LOCATION! the gas will destroy metal tools if done in your garage. Let it bubble and toil and trouble for 24hours, it eats the shaft completely gone and cleans up the steel arm without damaging it. You can then grease up and install an alternative shaft. It's messy, but successful, It's just one way that works. And Like DA said please add your name so we know who we're visiting with.

I've used electrolysis. After a day or two it comes out pretty easy. Others have not had success with it.

I'm Byron - sorry about that. Signed up to the board a year ago but for various reasons the sleds just sat and I didn't use the board. Back in business now - 4 Kohler Spitfires trying to make 2 good ones out of the lot.
