WTB VM34 Carb bodys to replace "340 Race" bodys

Post by WinnipegStPaul9 »

Yep, just what the "subject" says. I have the privilege of restoring a 1978 Cross Country that was raced. As I was about to remove the left carb I noticed what looked like a yellow John Deere parts sticker but when I got the carb off the sticker says "340 RACE". !!!!! Sure enough the right carb says the same. Well to do the job right, the carbs have to be cleaned and by doing so a piece of history would go down the drain so to speak. Instead I need a pair of throttle bodys for VM-34 carbs so that I can still use the rest of the carbs. If necessary I will buy two VM-34 carbs.
See the picture for yourself.

What number is stamped on the choke tube area on the carbs? Are you trying to find 78 340 carbs based on the stamped numbers?

That's pretty cool. Any idea what's different from a regular 340? Just different jetting?

Our plans include tearing the carbs down to clean and checking each component out to see what might be different. Pat the left is marked 34-122 and the right is 34-129.

I don't feel that the numbers are important in this case. Just need two 34mm bodys.
