Princeton

Post by guitardude081 »

Princeton was a blast. Everywhere I went it seems like Joe Rainville was there 5 minutes earlier. He's the only person I didn't see. I was talking to Mitch by his truck and I go, "That grumpy lookin' guy on the golf cart looks an awful lot like Kenny Hines". Mitch goes, "That's probably because it is Kenny". Caught up with Chuck, Jesse, Mitch and Rich.

Met quite few guys just getting into Deeres that haven't been on the board yet. They should hopefully be checking it out and joining us. Some of you probably met the guy with the X's, 00's and the Trailfire plus a good collection of NOS parts. He lives about 15 minutes from me. I'm hoping to buy his 2 JDX4's once I have a place to put them. I talked him into taking a look at jdsleds. I was half way down the last aisle and had mostly been sticking to buying what I came for. I only strayed to buy a sport seat and bought a whole skid instead of the rebuildable shocks I came for.

Then I saw it.....pigeon crap, dead rodent entrails and chicken feathers gleaming in the morning sun. That rotted out seat board, badly repainted hood and rusty bogies were calling my name and I was listening. It was a feeling I only get when I'm about to buy another basket case X or 00 sled that I really don't need. I took one look at those beautiful 1st gen skis and said I'll give you $20 for the skis. The guy had obviously been into the beer already (it's 9:30am at this point). "You give me $20 for the skis, I'll throw in the rest of the sled for no charge", he slurred. Needless to say, there was a Jack shaped smoke cloud like in the cartoons and 10 minutes later the old JDX and I were riding the whole length of the swap together on a trailer loud and proud getting thumbs up by all of the guys and the ever too familiar "yuck" look from the wives and girlfriends. Chuck moser watched us fall off the trailer half way to my truck. The guy wasn't lying when he said it rolled along nicely. When it rolled off the back of the trailer, I looked at the guy driving the wheeler and yelled, "It's got reverse!". I have had way too many of this same experience and still grin from ear to ear every time.

Great day yesterday.

Jack I missed almost everyone. People I talked to said, "Yup Rainville and Acre had already been through here". I thought dang I seem to be just missing everyone! It was a good time. Lots of Deere stuff there! Wearing a liquifire shirt got people coming up to me to BS. I was nosing through some PJ carbs and one guy goes, Hey JD guy come here I got a bunch of Kawasaki Motors in my pickup...They were all for invaders except one was 80/81 liquifire came with recoil, y pipe all electronics and and pumps and said it was a runner. oh and a nice original JD temp guage. Swindled him down to $40! it's not a whole sled lol but I was happy. checked bench compression at home and spark 125/125. It got warm there, my dad has a prostetic leg so we had to go at his pace lol. but we had fun meeting new people as well.

Allan,
Sounds like the spectacular deal train hit everyone. I rubbed it in the noses of a few guys at work this morning. I think you got a better deal. This isn't the first $20 JDX I've bought at Princetob and probably won't be the last. A good $40 liquified motor....that's a deal that doesn't come along very often.

I had a great time at Princeton, buy it's a lot of work to stay a step ahead of Jumping Jack Flash and Allen for an entire day, LOL!
Sorry I missed both you guys, but I think Jack and I designed his race sled over a multi-hour phone call Saturday night.

It was great to see the a bunch of the guys, even of some of the visits where short. Of the top of my head I saw Grumpy and Duane, Chuck, Mitch, Jesse, Mark, Kyle, and I am sure a bunch of others. Also ran into several VS guys, like Goose, the Weavers, Tom Rowland, Rich, etc. Overall an excellent time.

Picked up a few new things like an ATV ramp and sled dolly's for very low prices, and some used JD parts like a TR-800 and a set of Power Jet 36mm Mikuni's. But, it as the NOS parts that made me really smile: An NOS 102-C for the 80/81 Liquifire, 2 Kawi recoil for the LF and non-injected Kawi's, a recoil with the oil pump mount for the 82-84 Sport and Trailfires, and 2 JD push button kill switches. And, Rich brought me an NOS Ski for the 73 JDX-8 resto.

It was great to see everyone, sorry for the guys I missed, and it's nice to see that NOS parts are still out there.

-Joe

I saw quite a few of you Deere guys, even Joe. (Although he didn't admit to meeting up with me! LOL) It was fun. I wished I could get out more while at swaps, but watching your spot and talking to customers is part of vending I guess.....

I had a great time. It was nice to see everyone. Thanks for letting ride shot gun in the golf cart Kenny. I would not have made it through the entire swap. Thanks for letting me crash Friday night Jesse. Your cross-country display was second to none. Same with the new trailer. The Moose Drool was really good ddub. I picked up a six pack on the way home. I tapped my first one last night. Now I hope the 340/s paint I picked up from you inspires me to finally get that sled done. Then I can get Chuck off my arse. LOL. Now Joe, the message I relayed from my son Kyle was priceless. Just to let you know a little one puts a damper in activities. Then when they get older if they are out for three sports like my oldest was and Kyle is it's the same thing all over again but it's really fun. Mark and Kyle. Thanks for swapping some beer so I can add a couple of new cans to my collection. I wish I could have stayed Saturday night but I realized I wouldn't get to sleep until 2 and I would have had to get up at 5 plus waking everyone up in the process. I hope everyone enjoyed the sweet corn. Fresh right out of my dad's garden. 10 times better than the best Walmart sells. Princeton was great as normal!!!
