79 (not 81) Sportfire with oil injection?

Post by RootsTXL »

I recently picked up a very nice Sportfire. Manufactured in 81 and it has oil injection. This does not sound correct does it? I know, I should post the serial number but I forgot to write it down. The page that provide model info on this site states that oil injection was not added until 83? The sled will be for sale shortly and I want to make sure I list it correctly.

Thank you

Nice find. Manufacture date of 81 makes it an 82 model. Oil injection & rubber track first offered in 82. 83 is a typo.
If original it should look like this...

My mistake. The manufacture date is 80. It is cleated, electric start, chrome rear bumper

Hey Root,

If it was manufactured in the fall of 1980, the SN should be above 155,001 but below 190,000. Like Mitch said, that sled didn't get factory oil injection and a rubber track until the 82 Model year, above 190,001. The 80-81 Sports had a cleated track and pre-mix.

However, Deere did offer oil injection kits for both the 79-81 Trailfire's and the 80-81 Sportfires.

I hope this helps,

Must definitely be a kit then. This one is going to clean up extremely well. All I have done so far is to clean off the barn dust and get it running again. Came with the original cover that was on it when I saved it from the barn it was hiding in.

Thanks. Yes the seat is original. Very soft as well. Only blemish is the one shown at the hump. What is the most preferred method of dealing with this cut/blemish? I plan to list the sled for sale though and might just leave the blemish as is to allow the new owner to address it as they see fit. The fuel gauge is original and looks just as nice as the seat!!

I'd leave the seat as is if you're selling the machine.
