What about the Sno-Stuff Excaliber II 505-703 rods? I just purchased a set a few weeks ago. I'll admit they don't have the correct dog leg bends for the 80 Liquifire skis but then I haven't seen any of the aftermarket rods look like the OEM rods for the 80 Liquifire's either.
The 505-703 rods are 4" carbide (4 - 1" pieces) they also have a few "hard" inserts in front of and behind the carbide.

Re: CARBIDES
While I haven't bought any recently, the Snowstuff carbides are listed in the catalogs. Matt should be able to clear that up.
I am running them on our mid-mounts, and am happy with the results. I did of course have to mod the skis for the 3 bolt bar.

Re: CARBIDES
My supplier does not carry the 4" Sno-stuff carbides so I don't have them but they're still showing available at most of the other web sites like DK. I thought they had been discontinued but that may have been a temporary issue, considering DK is showing 10+ in stock.
I had them installed on my steel Sportfire skis and the lack of the dog-leg wasn't really a big deal, and I just broke the middle bolt off.
Dave, I do have the correct regular wear bars with the dog leg if you are able to use them to install the carbide on.

Re: CARBIDES
Matt,
A few years ago Brock showed me a NOS wear rod for the 80 Liquifires and it had a second dog leg bend approximately under the lower shock mount. I've never seen an aftermarket rod with both dog legs.

It's hard to see in this picture but there's a bend near the front bolt.

Re: CARBIDES
Dave: All the carbides I have seen over the years have the carbide in about 1 inch lengths butted together and soldered to the bar. The older standard was 90 degrees and current day is usually 60 degrees (more control, quicker wear). What is most important is carbide location. Draw an imaginary line through the spindle axis to ground looking from the side of the sled. You want more carbide to the rear of that point on the ground than to the front, maybe 40/60%, probably no more than 48/52%. Having more to rear provides steering return-ability, just like your car, let off the steering wheel in a curve and you car goes straight. Never have more to the front, that makes for a challenging steering and ill handling sled. Good quality carbides have flat carbide wear pads in the front and rear of the bar. Attached are some pics of NOS JD carbides for the Fire Series. The carbide begins at about 1/2 inch forward of the center stud with a total of 5 inches running toward the read. As always, the devil is in the detail. You have the option of mounting the ski in either the front or rear hole at the spring saddle which will effect your carbide location in relation to the steering axis. Myself, I use the rear hole and NOS carbides and get good handling, others may have different opinions. If you make some NOS clones, you have a customer here. Hope this helps.
