Paul,
Is there a rubber carb mounting flange. If so, there could be a crack in the rubber.

so your running lean. uhm now that i think about it did you check the carb flange for straightness.. sometimes the carb or intake warp. (usually from overtightening)

This is how the carb bolts to the motor.
On the intake flange there is a black flange that slides onto the intake, approx .500 thick this is a harder black flange made out of nylon I think. Next is a thin gasket with 2 little holes in the top and the bottom, and then the carb, which is held on by 2 bolts.

oops, yes I forgot. Its there Rich.
I am going to put each carb up on a flatness table here and work and see what the flanges check out at. I will post the results.

both carbs were checked at the flange area where it bolts to the intake and they were about .008. Not to bad.
Paper thickness is about .004.
The WRA-31 is now apart again and soaking in acid, I hope I can get the screws out of the circuit plate. The WDA-34 was built last night matching the WRA-31 to perfection. They have exact internals.

Yes Paul thats the other location I suggested running the pulse line off. I say go for it at this point. Ive got another thing to go with if you cant get this carb situation worked out by the weekend let me know. If you want Im willing to pull the working carb off my good running x8 and send it to you to try on your sled. Ofcourse I want it back haha but I dont mind lending it to you if you want but I cant get to the sled until Saturday. We dont have any snow and the sleds isnt put all back together but Ive ridden it this yr enough to know the carb works good.
PS if it does snow Ivr got plenty of other sleds to ride...........later

Thanks Andy. I really appreciate your help. Several of you guys are like gold to me and we have talked several times about this.
Here is my situation, I work 2 jobs and my morning job ( parttime) I have been laid off since last Tuesday and was called tonight to return tomorrow, repairing automobiles. I am planning on staying late here at the machine shop tonight and get this WRA-31 back together only if I can get the bolts out of the circuit plate assembly. If not, I will resort back to the WDA-34 and change the impulse location to the other cylinder and try it. If this all does not work, I hope you are sincere and we can talk about me borrowing your carb.
ALso ordered the dang throttle cable for the Cat too. If it werent for bad luck I would have no luck at all it seems these days, this is the hardest challenge I have dealt with mechanically in 36 years.!!

The WRA-31 is now together again, clean and very rust free. The circuit plate screws were removed, thank god, hammer and chisel knocked them loose. Found a couple problems. Under the circuit plate I found that one of the 3 little tiny holes was plugged, this is the angled hole leading up into the carb throat and the fuel pump valve??? the shiny round piece with tabs on it was not set correctly, the lock in tabs were bent out and not locking it in place , this was replaced with a brand new one. Found another hole plugged up a little bit also.
We shall give it another go.
The WDA-34 is in pieces, used the new diaphrams etc to get the 31 up to speed.
I will say my prayers tonight!!

The holes under the circuit plate are all idle to midrange fuel feeds.
As the throttle plate tips open, each hole is uncovered in sequence.
The high speed fuel supply, is directly under the high speed mixture needle.
All the ports flow fuel at WOT, so you did good in getting everthing cleaned up.
With the original carb, you had told us that the sled would run if you had the high speed screw turned out several turns. Have you tried cranking open the WRA-31?

I got it, then I lost it.
Put the carb on today, the WRA-31. Fired her up and let the grass and snow fly, side ways out the back yard and across the block to a big lot put several passes on the old gal running sweet. Several passes means about a quarter mile of riding. She ran superb, then I starting losing the low end . By this I mean the sled would bog out when first getting on the throttle all the way up to abut half throttle, but if you nailed the throttle she pulled right out of the bog, yee haa. Then the problem slowly started affecting the high end too to the point where once again the choke needs to be full on even to idle now.
I need a carb guys, no doubt in my mind. I wonder if I should take this WRA-31 back apart and recheck it for crap. I really got her clean, hence the pics when I first took it apart and it was rust. This baby is clean.
Send me a carb!!

Sent him a question on a buy it now price. I'm not trusting e-bay at all especially after the last carb was supposedly ready to go. Ready to go right in the acid tank that is.
Still needing a carb guys, preferably one that someone knows is good and has tested it themselves.

I'm scratching my head over that Paul. Other than the main body, there isn't much place for gunk to hide.
There is an air bleed hole that could get missed, I just noted it in the SM last night.
If you look in the throat, it is at the bottom, where the main needle goes into the body.
It allows air to mix with the idle circuits.
If you had it once, you ought to be able to get it back Stay away from tall buildings, lest you be tempted to jump off.

I know the little hole you are talking about Brian, this was one of the holes that was plugged up. Very tiny, it leads in under the circuit plate.
I guess I will have to tear it back off again and look to see if something was floating around again.
Andy, we need to talk about your offer.
