I just can't get a break!! In a rut!! 83 Snowfire
After a beating on a 84 TF that still doesn't run. I'm onto a 83 snowfire that is beating me too! Here's the deal so far. New seals, gaskets, rings, new genuine mikuni fuel pump, 1.5 viton Mikuni needle and seat, 160 main, 30 pilot, Mikuni choke plunger, fuel lines, checked float, choke setting, air screw, needle clip setting and ultrasonic cleaned carb a few times. 135 pounds both sides. Sled starts fine but idles down and dies after warming up but will start right up if holding throttle wide open. Will not idle unless screw is all the way in. Here's where it gets strange. When running I used a ray-tech gun to engine temp and the pto side is running 40-50 degrees hotter on head and a good 100+ hotter on exhaust manifold. I also removed and replaced the pulse hose noticed a mist of gas coming out of the pulse fitting on the crankcase when pulling it over. Seems like it flooding a bit? Seems like there is a couple problems going on? CDI? Air leak? I will pressure test again. It's frustrating after replacing most parts and still no luck! I'm in a JD slump and need help!!! HAHA! Thanks.

Sounds like it is only firing on one side. This could be that it has a bad coil or CDI or spark plug or plug wire.

After taking the carb apart again I did notice that the needle jet is a P-6 -169 and the service manual says P-2 169 (which is leaner). Is this causing my flooding problem? To my understanding the needle jet only controls 1/4 throttle and above? I'm just shooting for ideas? This sled acts JUST like an 83 sprint I worked on. After going round and round on that sled for over a YEAR I a found an NOS sprint carb and just like that sled idled and ran great and has never acted up.

sounds like only firing on one side like Todd mentioned. I would check the intake manifold gaskets. If sucking air on one side, would cause this problem.
