Trailfire copper head rings & Winderosa gasket kits
To anyone who has been rebuilding Trailfires that came with the copper head rings, has anyone just used the regular head gasket that came with the Winderosa kits? Does that work? Or are you required to find NOS copper rings?

The last 2 that I've done, I searched for the rings. I'm interested in finding out myself.

BOB at Image supposedly had these repopped.. He told me I bought the last ones he had. But he does say that a lot, so double check with him.
I would not use the regular head gaskets. I've seen engines with the copper gasket and normal gasket both installed on the same cylinder.

Many new and used parts available, I ship anywhere. Thanks everyone.

Re: Trailfire copper head rings & Winderosa gasket kits
Just wanted to toss this out there......one of my co-workers was looking for copper gaskets for his Kawasaki jet ski. He recalled buying them from someone about 10 years ago the first time he rebuilt the engine. This fall he had the engine open and wanted the exact replacements......couldn't find them. He called Cometic and asked and their reply was "sure we can make you a set in copper....what thickness are you looking for".
Bottom line is, if I was looking for a set I wouldn't be afraid to give Cometic a call......maybe they could help or have made them in the past. I had to contact them because I received a set that was missing a gasket and they were a pleasure to work with.

Re: Trailfire copper head rings & Winderosa gasket kits
when I resealed my sportfire last fall i was told by a good source in our JD community to scuff the old copper head gasket seal up with a scuff pad and to heat the ring up with a torch and reuse them . So I did and no problems sealing .

Save your old copper head gaskets as long as they are still nice and flat ! Scuff them up lightly with a scotch bright pad and Take a torch and lightly heat them . This process is called annealing , not sure that is the right spelling , LOL Copper is different than most metals .It is best to install directly after the scuffing and heating process. Brock
