Awesome sled! Pretty much positive it is a 1972 model though. The serial number would clear up all confusion on that point. thanks.

Hello Rourke,

Welcome to jdsleds.com, and thank you for posting such a unique find on our classifies. It's been a popular topic for discussion since a member here found it on craigslist. No doubt its a very nice original.

We do think it's a 72 model, where the SN should be under 11,000. It does look to have some 73-74 era updates, and it certainly could have been sold later than its model year.

Since we all love a good story, would you care to share how the sled ended up in California, and ended up showing such few miles?

Thanks,

Well guy's here's the story,
It was Sold New at a Tractor Shop in Hayward California to a Strawberry California Cabin owner for his Kids to ride when they were there, from what I got they would rather Ski than Snowmobile so the Sled just sat under the Cabin out of the weather, The owners passed away and the Cabin went there Kids and it still sat under the Cabin, then the Cabin was Sold a few years ago and the New Owners of the Cabin give it to the Contractor that was doing some work on the place, then it came to me to get it running about 7 years ago, Cleaned gas tank and carb new fuel lines , battery and she fired right up, I rode it around my shop ran great, then went back into storage , So here it is needing a good home it show it self off.
Serial number as follows 5000A 005565 M
Lets get this Sold
Thanks :usa:

Very neat story, thanks for sharing that with us.

BTW, the letter "A" in the serial number does identify the sled as a 1972 model, the first year Deere built sleds.

The shiny new condition of the track indicates to me that this is the real deal, a very low mileage machine.

The sled would make a great, and kind of unique addition to anyone's Deere collection!

I wonder if maybe it was a leftover at the dealership and they added the accessories in '73 there before it actually sold.
