340S Race Modification Help

Post by WinnipegStPaul9 »

I'm working on a 340/S and the customer wants the chaincase protection plate as noted in the attached "Race Bulletin". My problem is that I didn't install this plate on my original race sled or the ABS side plates which might have saved me in the race....who knows. Anyway I'm not sure I have all the necessary pages because it doesn't indicate if the chaincase protection plate is installed under the ABS or between the ABS (in my case fiberglass) and the chaincase. Has anyone installed this plate and if so could you attach a picture of it in place?

If you read the information below the chaincase protection plate it talks about "Side Pan Reinforcement" as well. Again I don't think I have all of the pages because it talks about "templates" and I don't have any templates.

Can anyone give me a hand here? Thanks,

DA

The only chaincase plate I've seen was installed from the bottom/outside. It appeared the pan was smashed before the plate was put on....whether that makes a difference I don't know. And there were no side plates installed....I'm assuming they go right about where the pan tore :wall:

I'm pretty sure mine came with a factory aluminum pan swap as the original owner stated the sled was never wrecked when he raced it, DA do you remember seeing any back in the day that were non ABS?

Nope, the aluminum option didn't come along until after racing season as the pan used was made for the 76 models with ribs. Unless someone knows different I don't think you could get the aluminum pan kit during race season.

Maybe the second owner did the pan swap then. I wish the first owner had pictures of it but he didn't!
