The sled is in a garage at my work and lifted up on sled lift.

And out it is :)

With oil tank and gas tank out, it's time for some cleaning.

And the decals removed. I don't know if I'm gonna get new ones or go for high polish

When having parts loose, got to clean them... :D

It was not very dirty, but it made some difference

I really wonder how drunk the previous owner was when he cut the wires so short?
(sorry about the bad photo)

But nothing is impossible.

And the oil level sensor is like new again, working perfect.

Thanks JDT!

Now when I have almost all parts and finally finished other projects and taking the time for the Sprintfire, I'm really all in to get it back on snow again :D

Yesterday I started with the motor.

Oily on the outside :shifty:
Image

Image

Brake clean and cloth works fine
Image

Not completely clean inside, but that's my own doing. I sprayed the crank and cylinder barrels with MoS2 oil when I got the parts home.

Clean

Last winter when I ordered some sled parts, I bought a oil seal to test if it would fit... and it fits perfect  But I will have to get one more before I can put the motor back together. And the crank has to get new bearings too. SKF of course

Was not too hard to change bearings on the crank.
Image

Image

Bearings off on both sides
Image

Warming the new bearing a bit before pressing it on to the crank
Image

A hydraulic press is just a big MUST :beers;
Image

But always remember to fill the crank center before pressing, it's so easy the bend the crank otherwise
Image

New SKF 6206 C3 mounted on the crank

Looks good but I have to ask. I noticed the bearing number on the box was 6202-2RS1. That part number looks to me to be a sealed bearing. Did you remove the seals from the new bearing?

Yes, I just popped out the seals. The RS bearings is the same as the open, but they are greased. It's not much grease and it will flush away with the gas running trough the crankhouse, it will give a little extra smoke in the beginning  I had those bearing lying, so that's why I used them.

Today I made a good work cleaning the gas tank, inside and outside :D

After reading about how the plastic in JD:s gas tanks kind of loosen up in the material, I cleaned the inside with nuts and petrol.
Some strange fluid came out the first time....
Image

The outside of the tank is very gray of plastic oxide
Image

Image

Gently using a hot air gun to warm out the softner in the plastic brings back the nice black to the outside again :beers;
Image

And after the warm up, a polish with a plastic cleaner makes the tank look new again
Image

DONE! And a new gas cap is ordered.

Thanks skoalmint :usa:
Good to know if it should fail. But I don't think the heat will take it, the oil tank plastic has a lower melting temperature then the tin soldering.

Here comes some more pics :)

One of the first pictures of the sled in this thread you can se the strap over the seat, it's all green of moss...
Image

I was planning to replace the strap with a seat belt from a car, but somehow I gave the old strap a few minutes of work
Image

And with a good result
Image

After a spinn in the washing machine it looks like new again.
