X8 still broke

Prayers must have helped.

;)

She runs much better today, one thing that was changed out again was the inline fuel filter. I noticed that when the motor started up and died I watched the back flow of the fuel out of the filter, not good. Filter looked clean, but when it back flowed I saw it, that would be rust. The brass inners hid this stuff. New filter was installed and she ran great and I rode alot harder and farther and the problem slowly started to act up again. Looked at the fuel filter and I can see some small deposits of crap again. I am going to buy about 10 of these filters. Gas tank will be pulled out this weekend and acid washed.

Andy, still send me your carb. Still not totally sold, but I am seeing the light.

Paul,
Take the fuel tank to a car wash and power wash it out.

The original tank on my X8 looked pretty good after I sloshed it with EZ-Off, and a good quantity of crushed rock. However, after I dried it out with a blow dryer, it didn't look so good. When it was wet, it looked much different.

I'm glad to hear you have an angle on this situation.

I have some beefy acid here at work, it wont eat through the tank, but its mean. It made the carb that was a rust bucket look like brand new. We use this stuff to remove rust from cast iron castings. Then it will get power washed.

I am still not 100% that this is all of my problems yet. I will be letting you all know after the tank is cleaned and I buy out the stores stock of fuel filters.

I could sell these filters at the HOF.

Should I send a clean tank so you dont gum up my carb also haha sry couldnt resist. If you cant get the tank clean I have a couple tanks in decent shape also. Why dont you throw a small plastic gas can in place of the tank and see how she runs. Ive made a few temporary tanks out of antifreeze jugs I just drill 2 holes in the cap and stick steel lines through them with a peice of rubber hose on both sides of the hole in cap they are pretty leak proof also.

The fuel tank has been pulled out and is at the shop soaking her guts in acid. Looked worse than i thought. The first cleaning was not good enough, it will be now.

Got a question too.

Are you guys running the wire style clamps on the fuel lines at the gas tank and at the carb connections?

I clamp everything. I'm using worm clamps mostly, but the spring clamps are OK.

Well, the tank is done and looking almost brand spanking new. I also painted it as Brian did, the color stated on the can Aluminum/silver. Looks good. As for the inside it came out flawless, after blow drying the inside, I again took a very small linked chain and rattled it around, this loosened up any grit that was left behind after it completely dried. Then I blew it out again with 110psi. Will do the install tomorrow and fire the old gal up.

No snow though.
