1973 JD 400 Clutch options

Post by farleyjd400 »

I have a 1973 JD 400 that i finally got going this winter. I believe i need to do some primary clutch work. Is there a place where i can get Salisbury parts to rebuild the one i have or is it just better going with a Comet clutch? What Comet clutch would i use and where would i get one? where to get parts to rebuild the factory clutch? Any information would be help full

thank you Andy

I believe Joe Rainville has some Salsbury parts, so he may be able to help you out there.

A Comet 102c clutch would be the most common replacement. You would want to get the 90d secondary to go with it. Parts are pretty common for these, and you can use the weight/spring specs from the rest of the JDX/00 line: http://www.hoffcocomet.com/EpiphanyWeb/ ... spx?ID=122. You can probably pretty easily find someone to sell you the complete setup off another JDX/00 but it will probably be the 100 or 101 clutch which do not hold up as well as a 102.
