80 Liquifire Windshield

Post by gradzz »

Hello, my first post, so I'll start out pretty simple, lol The 80 Liquifire I just purchased is missing the windshield. What windshields are you guys using? I see there are 3 available on ebay. SnoStuff, Koronis, and Kimpex. I would like it to look correct, do these replacement windshields have the original style contours? I heard the SnoStuff one is pretty flimsy, but have not heard anything about the other two. Which one is recommended? Thanks

Koronis is the parent company of Sno-Stuff, so those two are the same.

That's kind of what I was wondering, the part numbers are very similar.

Thanks for the input guys, I ordered the Kimpex one.

Peter,

The Dator windshields took a few months longer than expected, but they are sending me a fit ups sample this week, and plan the production right after I approve the fit and design.

Liquifire Sport is next in the que. One is being shipped for them to quote next.

Thanks,

I received my new Kimpex windshield, looks like a nice piece, but it is a few inches taller than the broken original one that came with the sled. The sport windshield you are referring to, would that be a shorter one? Thanks

Yes. As far as I am concerned, it is the only style that should be on a 80-84 Liquifire, When the Deere sled parts re-surfaced in the mid-nineties the Sport windshields were missing. The aftermarket, for reasons that I am not aware of never manufactured them. (except for the ones Cannon made)

There were 3 windshield choices available from Deere in 1980 for everything but the Spitfire. 16ish Sport version, standard on the Liquifire and Sportfire, 17ish Standard on the Trailfire, and the optional 22ish Cross Country unit invented by Stan Hayes. In 1982 and beyond, the CC windshield was standard fare on the Trailfire LX but still optional on the others. Aftermarket shield choices have been limited to the 17 and 22 inch units with Kimpex offering a pretty close interpretation of the Cross Country in that taller size. Stan raced the Liquifire prototypes in 1979 using his CC windshield invention because it offered protection from the bitter cold and speed trials showed no difference versus the standard Sport shield. I know the Sport was in all the literature on Liquifires but in practice I've always preferred the Cross Country for the same reasons Stan did.

Gradzz and Guys,

The version I am having quoted is the 16" tall "Sport" version, the shortest one available. I have having it quoted with and without the center tab to see if we can offer two versions for the 79-80 sleds without the tab and the 81-84 that came with the center mounting tab.

These will fit the 79-84 Trailfire, 80-84 Sport and Liquifire. Now that the Liquidator windshields are nearly done, I hope they can get these turned around a little faster.

Thanks,
