Sorry for confusion. Did some poking around, it was 45 hp for 77 / 78, so I stand corrected. Deere had a restricted Y-pipe and different clutch weights installed on the Cross Country to reduce the 47 hp to 45. I would bet the rent it was 56 before 1980, which leaves only 79.

To the original question, all the 78 CC-Liquifire's were 340's, falling within the SN range of 80,751 to 80,924 for 174 produced. The main difference was the long travel rear suspension with a wheel kit, Yokahoma 121 x 15" rubber track with a 3.29" drive lug pitch, triple drive spockets on a hex shaft. The sleds were not sold with the more restrictive Y pipe, racers had to add it as a kit from Deere. It reduced power from 47 down to the race legal 45. Deere also offered the track and suspension as a kit to update regular 76-78 340 Liquifire's for CC racing, along with a roller chain tensioner kit.
As far the HP limits in CC racing, it got a little conflicting in the late 70's due their being more than one cross country circuit until ICCSF folded. The winter of 78 was the first year hp limits were enacted, and it was 45 hp. For 79 I think it moved up to 49hp or so before the 56 hp rules came out in the early 80's. Before that CC racing had either no limits, or just engine size limits. I think 72 or 73 had a 400 cc limit, while 74 had both a 300cc limit and stock engine rules. 75-77 were 340cc limits, stock engine but no hp limits which led to the rise of the factory specials like the 340/s and Liquidator.
